I Don’t Like The Sound Of My Own Voice

People often tell me they want to start a podcast, but they’re holding themself back because they don’t like the sound of their voice.

But here’s the thing…

Your voice doesn’t sound the way YOU hear it.

When you’re speaking, the bone structure in your head conducts sound through vibrations making it sound richer and fuller. So when you hear it as a recording it lacks the depth and richness you normally hear and are accustomed to.

There are however a number of things that you can do to help maintain as much quality in your audio as possible, and make sure your audio sounds amazing.

  1. Use a good microphone.  The inbuilt mic on your laptop and most webcams just won’t cut it for quality. The investment of a good mic is totally worth it.
  1. Set your recording levels and maintain the correct distance from the mic throughout the recording. Having a  consistent audio track makes it much easier to fine tune your final recording.
  1. With the majority of microphones, staying off axis and using a pop filter will make a huge difference in reducing unwanted sounds that lower the quality of your recording. Starting with an all round cleaner better quality raw audio makes it so much easier for the editor to make you sound awesome.

If you want to start a podcast, don’t let the sound of your voice hold you back.  Here at Your Podcast Concierge, we care about making you sound great!
